About GameRaven
GameRaven launched in 2021 as a three-person operation covering game reviews nobody else wanted to write, mostly mid-budget releases that fell between the biggest marketing pushes and the smallest indie darlings. Five years on we're a nine-person team split across reviews, hardware testing and features, still trying to write the way we did on day one: specific, opinionated, and willing to say when something isn't very good.
What we cover
We review games across every major platform, test hardware with the same controllers and headsets for months rather than days, and run features and interviews on the parts of the industry that don't fit neatly into either category. We don't cover esports results or breaking corporate news; there are better outlets for both, and we'd rather spend our limited staff time on the longer-form work readers tell us they can't find elsewhere.
How we score reviews
Our review scores run from 0 to 10, with 10 reserved for a small handful of genre-defining releases and anything above 7 representing a game we'd actively recommend. A score is assigned by the reviewer who played the game to completion or to a representative, substantial point in a longer game, and it isn't adjusted by editors after the fact; the written review is the actual argument, and the number is a summary of it, not the other way around.
Advertising and funding
GameRaven is funded through display advertising and does not accept payment for coverage or scores. Where we link to retailers, some of those links may be affiliate links that earn us a small commission on a purchase, at no extra cost to the reader; this never affects which products we recommend or how we score them. We buy our own review hardware wherever possible, and where a publisher provides early access to a game or device for review, that's disclosed in the piece itself.
